I was reading the manual for, AS - the portable GNU assembler and found the following:

Mainly struck by two things: a) the ability of these programs to continue in the face of flaws and b) the very clear description of what conditions raise a warnings and errors.

And the nice design principle that warnings report an assumption which makes these warnings rather useful.
